Tuesday 22nd March saw the top KS3 and KS4 boys’ and girls’ teams from Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire converge on Loughborough Leisure Centre for the next round of the Schools League competition: the East Midlands regional finals! Leicestershire was represented by Ibstock Community College (KS3 Girls), Newbridge High (KS3 Boys), King Edward VII (KS4 Girls) and Loughborough Grammar (KS4 Boys)
While all the teams had earlier been crowned champions for their respective counties, they were now competing for the honour of representing the East Midlands region at next month’s National Finals. And while many players were experienced campaigners from the national tournament circuit, for others it was their first experience of this level of competition – what a fantastic opportunity for everyone to get the chance to pit their badminton skills against players from other parts of the UK.
The final results for Leicestershire:
Silver Medal: Newbridge High School (Kyle Grady, Luke Hoult, Harry Clare, Noel Kew)
Silver Medal: Loughborough Grammar School (Jakob Rana, Will Lo, Sam Rodgers, Jamie Chan, Mengwin Li)
Bronze Medal: Ibstock Community College (Isobel Pike, Katy Evans, Evie Pike, Niamh Elliott)
Bronze Medal: King Edward VII School (Natasha Groocock, Eve Dale, Ella Haines, Ebony Harrison)
Congratulations to all the players on a fantastic achievement!
