Match Report by Carole Spencer
Graham and I recently travelled to Warwickshire to help out with the U11 team. Everyone was a little nervous as we arrived at the Bridge Sports Centre since this was the first experience of competitive play for most of the team.
The Warwickshire coach assured me that they had 4 rookies in their team while we had 6 players who had never competed in a match before with some as young as 7 years old. This worried me but as they started to play, they grew in confidence and a great morning’s badminton was played. The match result did not matter; the aim was to give these young players the chance to compete and they definitely raised their game with some of our more experienced players doing really well against good opponents.
Leicestershire won 9 games throughout the morning , 3 Mixed , 3 Boys singles, 1 girls singles and 2 boys doubles.
The two rookie managers Karen (Carly’s mum) and Adam (William’s Dad) did a good job and I am sure will take this team forward to great things. Most of these players will now be competing in the U11 Championships next weekend at Babington College.
Well done to all the players and a big thanks to the parents for their support!
